Barcelona Beat the LA Lakers!

by Olivia Elson

Spain's basketball successes just keep on coming!

After the women's team won bronze at the World Championships last week, the men's team has proved its worth too with an impressive win against NBA champions the Los Angeles Lakers.

Last night in Barcelona the teams played in front of a huge crowd of 17,000 spectators and, despite being a friendly, the atmosphere was highly competitive and concluded with a difference of only 4 points in the score, which finished on 92-88.

Top scorers on Barca's team included their two American imports Pete Mickael and Terence Morris, along with Juan Carlos Navarro, who contributed 25 points.

Spanish centre for the Lakers, Pau Gasol was the centre of attention for the match, and was very happy to have been received so warmly after spending so many years playing abroad. He concluded the match in high spirits saying, "You always want to win, but it was an emotional game …The fans enjoyed it, and the atmosphere was spectacular. We lost, but when your friends win you have to be happy for them."
