We asked if you had (or hoped to) study Spanish in a Spanish-speaking country. And the results convince me to keep hanging out at this blog! I live and work in Spain because an acquaintance offhandedly recommended I take an immersion Spanish course back in 2001. Mike Carrick, a student at the Birkdale school in the UK, wrote the following article about his experience at don Quijote Granada for the Birkdale school website. Mike travelled to Granada as the recipient of a scholarship awarded in the don Quijote 20 Scholarships programme.

Have you ever explored the don Quijote virtual museum?

Added to the don Quijote website in honor of the 400th anniversary of the publication of Cervantes' novel in 2005,  the museum receives and posts art, news, etc. from all over the world, all of it inspired by Don Quijote.

What I like most is seeing that the students are there because they want to be, that they really learn…and that in a certain way they are my “creation”, ha ha. Plus my work is always a mutual cultural exchange.

Here's how we announced our 4th annual Scholarship Programme, launched last week, in our Weekly Lesson newsletter:

We’ve just launched our 4th annual Fundación don Quijote Scholarship Programme.

First we’ll gather great language learning ideas from all corners of the globe. Then we’ll award 20 scholarships for 2-week Spanish courses- complete with accommodation - to the 20 educational institutions presenting the best-developed and most innovative plans to promote the study of Spanish as a foreign language.

View Article  A word a day for advanced students -- and another for beginners
A few weeks ago I signed up for a Word of the Day I am truly enjoying. The daily definition hits my mailbox compliments of www.elcastellano.org. El Castellano's words come complete with history and etymology. As much as it delights me daily, El Castellano's palabra del día is decidedly aimed at native speakers and not a good bet for beginners. If you've yet to discover don Quijote's palabra del día, it's published daily on the website, or you can link to the week's words from the Weekly Lesson free e-mail lesson sent out to don Quijote web members.    more »
